bad mecha setting concepts for free

  • royal bloodlines were secretly an attempt to inbreed so hard that it eventually results in a newtype who will pilot their royal family’s heirloom mecha
  • orgone is real, but completely useless to humans. you can trade orgone to demons to violate the square-cube law and every major government now has a trade agreement with hell to power their mecha programs
  • it’s standard arthuriana except every knight has their own mecha. otherwise, it’s a fairly straightforward duel arc adaptation of the green knight

God fuck I now want horse mecha being ridden by human mechas

you’re right. your heart knows.

folks you need to understand that the eradication of trained artists and designers is a much, much, much bigger threat to arts and culture than IP laws.

why do you think is it that every movie poster the same collage of a bunch of faces? why does every website made after 2015 look the same and rendered unusable by the same ugly pop ups? why does it keep getting harder to differentiate the apps on your phone? Why can’t the back of the book just fucking tell you what the book is about?

look I’m a graphic designer. when I started studying design I had clear career goals. I spent like, thousands of hours on studying effective visual communication, psychology, history, grid systems, color theory, typography, print and digital design techniques, accessibility like whatever I believed would make me better at design I poured myself into it.

and within the span of like. five years maybe. 90% of design work disappeared. By the time I graduated there were basically no graphic designers. After 2012 Every company decided that design itself is trivial and true designers should know how to code. And manage social media. And do video editing. And copywrite. and this. and that. and. and. and. and as previous generations of visual designers and illustrators retired, the people who had the luxury of putting all their time into developing specific set of skills, they were replaced with tech grifters and designers who were forced to learn a dozen different skills and were at best mediocre at everything.

my job is not threatened by AI automation because it has already been ruined by automation through canva and bootstrap. and no one even tried to put a stop to it because good design is hard to understand and easy to imitate. so people started to imitate the visuals of previous good design and thought that was all there is to design. and after 10 years of copies of copies of copies we’re all asking each other: “why does everything look the same”

now illustrators fear the same will happen to their field. and some of them want stricter copyright laws rights, because there is nothing else that can protect their work. “theft” is the only legal protection they have. and yeah, IP laws suck. but it’s better for them to defend their labor using shoddy laws than not at all. and if you allow unimaginative grifters to displace artists from the few creative fields where they still work you won’t even have a reason to worry about IP laws.

When Europeans discuss America:

As an American, it so SO FUCKING REFRESHING to hear our problems talked about like this. Hearing someone acknowledge how little fucking power the American people have in our system.

You can blame America as a whole for a LOT of things, and I’m not saying her citizens are blameless in that by any means, but we are very, VERY much victims in this equation as well.

The Death of the 3DS (and Wii U)

Last year, Nintendo removed the ability to make purchases on the 3DS/Wii U eShops. This month, on March 27th of 2023, is the end. You will be able to redownload previously purchased content “for the foreseeable future”, though.

To be crystal clear: if you ever wanted a digital version of a 3DS/Wii U game or it’s DLC, you have less than a month to obtain it legally. That’s it.

So, what do you need to do? Simple. You need to download the following free software to future proof your 3DS:

1: PokeTransporter
If you literally ever want to play pokemon games older than the 3DS and move those pokemon forward, you NEED this app to transfer from DS to 3DS.

2: PokeBank
This software transfers pokemon from 3DS to Switch, and is going to be free after the eShop closes. It currently has a $5 subscription fee, but again, this will be removed after March 27th. If you want to transfer any 3DS pokemon to Switch, you NEED this app.

3: Pokemon Picross
The save data for this software is used to hack the 3DS. Even if you don’t want to hack your 3DS, you may someday want to play a 3DS game that is digital only, like Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation. This is the current software used to hack your 3DS using the excellent 3DS hacking guide.

On a related note, my guide on what to do with a hacked 3DS is available here, and my Wii U guide is here.

It is impossible to brick your 3DS or Wii U with modern hacking solutions, but you should still follow the instructions closely to make sure you don’t scare yourself.

Once again, either you download Pokemon Picross or you are committing to never playing any digital 3DS game you don’t already have.

If you have questions, my inbox is always open. Nintendo may have given up on these consoles, but we never will. Rock on, tumblr.

I really like how many of the world’s most iconic structures and places are just right next to some of the most mundane stuff imaginable, for example

image

Stonehenge

image

Is right next to a busy road

image

The Pyramids of Giza

image

Are at the outskirts of Cairo

image

Niagara Falls

image

Are part of the town of the same name

image

And Agrippa’s Pantheon

image

Is crammed inside downtown Rome

It just so interesting to notice.

I lived in Nîmes for three years, and the mundane feeling I got whenever I would walk from my apartment, by the Roman coloseum in the city which was 2000+ years old, and continue with my life because it was just sort of there still surprises me when I think about it.

This post is just that feeling put into words and pictures.
